Nondrivers Alliance is a grassroots organizing project that taps into the power, expertise and passion of nondrivers to move our communities beyond car dependency.

For people who can grab their keys and go, transportation often isn’t a major concern. But for those of us who can’t drive or can’t afford to, transportation is something we think about daily.

A third of Washingtonians are nondrivers like us. We care about accessibility because it can make the difference between getting to do the things that connect us to our communities, like running errands, seeing a friend, or getting to an appointment — or being stuck at home and isolated. Nondrivers Alliance taps into this knowledge and dedication to advocate for communities where all of us can move.

Transit Riders on Transit Boards

Nondrivers need a voice at the table. We’ve been fighting for transit rider representation on transit boards and believe transit leadership and elected leaders should ride the systems they run.

Nondriver Action 501(c)(4)

We’ve launched a 501(c)(4)! Nondrivers and disabled Washingtonians need a voice. Stay tuned for our 2026 general election endorsements.

Transit is Our Lifeline: Supporting Transit Levies

We organized with transit riders in Spokane to win a transit levy in August. Now we’re organizing nondrivers to support transit levies in Tacoma and Seattle that will be on the November ballot.

Rainier Valley Transit Justice

Rainier Valley is too often an afterthought. We need safer crossings at Judkins Park Station, scooting/biking infrastructure and reliable transit. We successfully fought to save the Graham Street Station and now we’re fighting to keep local bus service on Rainier.

Disability/Mobility Book Club

We’re launching a book club! RSVP to our monthly Sunday book club discussions! We also host a monthly learning space with guest speakers working in transit, infrastructure, policy and disability spaces.

Week Without Driving is growing the nondriver movement

Week Without Driving shines a light on that reality and invites everyone to experience, reflect, and share what life is like without driving. It’s a chance to understand daily life for the millions of people who cannot drive due to age, disability, income, or other barriers. It’s an opportunity to tell your story and help reimagine what transportation options could look like in your community.

Whether you’re a community member or elected leader, work at a transit agency or for a nonprofit, run a small buiness or coordinate a national coalition, there are lots of ways to join the movement!
